Just one of the opportunities the NY Arts Program provides, workshops with Creative Capital endeavor to give artists the tools to sustainably pursue their practice. Recent workshop topics have included Strategic Planning and just this past weekend, Financial Literacy–which I’ll admit does sound intimidating.
However when an intimate group of NYAP students gathered with Amy from Creative Capital, talking about debt reduction, credit, and taxes was shockingly energizing and as fun as finances can ever be.
The workshop provided a safe space to ask the questions I’d always been too shy to ask and encouraged all in attendance to address the scary world of finance that can tend to be shoved into a drawer and left unopened.
While I may not be a tax expert yet, I feel the urgency of taking control of my finances head on. And Saturday’s financial literacy workshop with Creative Capital left all with a little, guiding “Amy” on their shoulder.
