A Valentine’s Guide to NYC (for singles)

Move over, love birds. This is a single’s guide to doing Valentine’s Day 2017 in the city.

If you’re looking for ways to spend Valentine’s Weekend/Day with your special someone, I’m so happy for you! But get outta here. There are endless internet sources for you and this isn’t one of ’em.

If you’re looking to celebrate Galentine’s Day, Anti-V Day, or even do Valentine’s Day solo, you’ve come to the right place. According to every romantic comedy I’ve ever seen, Valentine’s Day is the worst day of the year for singles. BUT WHY?! Valentine’s Weekend is one of the best days of the entire year to save money on food, drinks, and events. Instead of moping around about your S.O. dumping you, worrying that you’ll never marry, or shoveling ice cream into your mouth while you watch The Notebook, grab a pal and enjoy all the Valentine’s deals New York has to offer.

Love in Times Square. If you’re really cynical about love, maybe this isn’t the one for you. Every year, thousands of people gather in Times Square to watch other people sing about love, propose to each other, and get married. If you’re one of those people that coos every time you see an elderly couple hold hands in public or cries when you watch “surprise proposal” videos on YouTube, this would be the perfect event for you. Hey, maybe you’ll meet your next romantic conquest in the crowd!

Anti-Valentine’s Day Party. This is for the cynic that refers to Valentine’s Day as “Singles’ Awareness Day” (aka, S.A.D.) The Social Wine Lovers of NYC club is throwing an Anti-Valentine’s Party at Hudson Station in Hell’s Kitchen this Saturday, February 11th. There will be complimentary appetizers, drink specials, “Hip-hop and Top 40 music all night” (according to their website) and lots of mingling/ice breakers for finding yourself a Valentine. Tickets are $20 and 50% of all proceeds will be going to Bidawee (a non-profit animal rescue.) Click here for tickets and information.

A Very Drake Valentine’s Day. I wish I were kidding… Baby’s All Right in Williamsburg will be throwing their traditional “Drake Night” party–Valentine’s edition. Get in your feelings Drizzy-style this Valentine’s Day. For $10, you get access to non-stop Drake hits all night and a 1am champagne toast. Because nothing says “I’m single” like listening to Too Good…alone…on Valentine’s Day. Get more information here.

  • Chili’s- $22 for two- 1 appetizer, 2 entrees
  • Outback Steakhouse- $42 for two- 1 Bloomin’ Onion, 2 entrees, 2 sides, 2 salads, 1 cheesecake (add a Love Potion Cocktail for $5!) Also offering a free $10 gift card for Valentine’s weekend!
  • Red Lobster- $30 for two 4-course meals ($15 each)- soup, salad, seafood entree, dessert, and unlimited Cheddar Bay Biscuits

Have a Galentine’s Day party. Guys are invited too! Invite a pal to watch rom-coms, share a pizza, turn your apartment into a karaoke bar, do whatever you want! And don’t forget, guys. 50 Shades Darker comes out this weekend. Perfect for a girls night.

Don’t let the couples have all the fun this year, my loves. Valentine’s Day is all about celebrating love. So show some love to your pals, your work buddies, your mom, your S.O. & yourself this weekend!

xoxo, M.
